Carey Baptist Grammar School is a co-educational international school based on Christian principles, and welcomes families of all faiths with warmth and respect. Students are encouraged to respect the individuality of others and develop a sense of community responsibility. At all levels students are encouraged to develop awareness of, and respect for, social, economic and cultural differences.
Carey is a member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria, the International Baccalaureate Organisation, and is accredited by the Council of International Schools as a leading international school. Founded in 1923, the School offers educational experiences incorporating a broad range of study options for students of all abilities, enriched with co-curricular activities that cater for all interests.
The School’s Kew campus caters for students from 3-year-old kindergarten to Year 12 (VCE and International Baccalaureate); the Donvale campus caters for 3-year-old kindergarten to Year 6, after which all students transfer to the Kew campus. A 14 ha sports complex at Bulleen provides extensive facilities including ovals, athletics tracks, a gymnasium and indoor swimming and diving pools. The School also has an Outdoor Education facility in Gippsland in Eastern Victoria, Camp Toonallook.
The curriculum in both Junior School campuses delivers studies in the eight Key Learning Areas within an integrated program. Computer technology is integrated across the curriculum. Students share in the planning and evaluation of the activities in which they participate utilising a variety of resources within the School and in the wider community.
Middle School students select from an exceptionally broad range of optional studies that allow them to explore their individual interests and abilities, and undertake a range of interdisciplinary studies that expand their knowledge and experience of the world beyond the School boundaries through extended studies that take them off campus.
Senior School provides a pre-tertiary environment that encourages independent learning. Advanced studies are available at each level (Years 10-12) including University Enhancement Studies offered in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and Monash University at Year 12 level.
Pastoral Care is very important at Carey and underpins all activities. All staff members are involved in the care and well-being of each student with support from Heads of House, Students Services staff including School Counsellors, a Careers Counsellor, School Nurses and Chaplains.
